The windthrow research team is led by Dr. Stephen J. Mitchell of the Department of Forest Sciences, Faculty of Forestry, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. Dr. Mitchell is an Associate Professor of Silviculture with wide research interests and has published papers in silviculture and risks in forest planning and management. Naa Lanquaye-opoku studied under Dr. Mitchell and graduated with a masters in forestry in May, 2003. Her M.Sc. thesis (pdf, 2.8mb) was entitled Empirical modelling of windthrow risk using Geographic Information Systems. She is currently working as a Research Associate

                       

with Dr. Mitchell. Ken Byrne, Wolf Read, Mike Buffo and Felipe Hirata are graduate students studying various aspects of windthrow with Dr. Mitchell. Faustino Chi is a Ph.D student studying mangrove recovery following hurricanes and Sophie Boizard is a Post-Doc within the group.
